To begin this review I would like to say that Rocket Arabic is one of the best language courses that I found available online (for beginners). It is the not too long ago launched course from Rocket Languages. This company is well-known for its Spanish, German, French courses online. It brings together components of both Rosetta Stone and Pimsleur to develop a mix of both of types as you’ll learn via audio lessons and different software programs. The course was developed by a native speaker from Egypt – Amira Zaki. Some of the components of Rocket program might not be called extensive. However, it’s well rounded and quite enjoyable method to study that is ideal for newbies.

What is included in the course?

One of the most useful components of this course is a software called ‘Hear it say it’. It is designed for improving your pronunciation and learning vocabulary. So basically you play an audio of a word or phrase and have to guess the meaning. To improve your pronunciation you can also use a record tool and record yourself saying it and later compare it. After completing lessons you can use another tool, which is called ‘Know it’. It works by showing you random words and phrases in English, which you have to translate to Arabic and then you will be able to test how well you knew them. There is a new feature only added recently, which is called ‘Write it‘. It is created for improving your writing skills. It works by playing you an audio of a word or phrase and then you have to write what you have just heard. In addition to that there is a forum created for learners of Arabic like you. There you can always ask for help if you find something difficult or get some tips and advice.

The best part of this course is that you can try it for free and see for yourself how well this works for you. So you have nothing to lose here, only to gain. With a free trial you will be able to access interactive audio lessons, language and culture classes along with tips provided in a daily newsletter. Simply complete a short form bellow by filling your e-mail and name. After that you’ll get access to free lessons.

Also while using this course you will be able to track and review your overall progress at all times. So this will keep you motivated to study further. The whole course consists of 31 audio and culture lessons along with computer software’s mentioned above. As audio lessons can be transferred to any player you will be able to learn half of the material while driving your car or listening to iPod.

What do other people testimonials say?

When it comes to reviews about Rocket program it is quite difficult to find a negative one. The reason is that that this company as it was mentioned before gives its customers free trial for 6 days, so before buying they can fully test this program. Bellow there are a few testimonials:

Rocket Languages is awesome!!!! Love this course and software included!! The company really seems to do as much as they can to help their customers. I’m super impressed with this course. First of all, they give you a free one-week trial to listen to their course and view the accompanying text files…  (Brad - Chicago, IL)

"Started the Rocket Arabic course less than a week ago on a trial basis and then purchased it. What I like most is that it not only gives you the words, it teaches you the sounds, how to pronounce the words and how to put them together in sentences and explains everything in English, since that is my native language. Spent many times more on other courses and this is by far the best!" (Karen - San Jose, CA)

“Rocket Premium package is simple, clear and easy to understand. Role-play with male & female is very effective.” (Allison - Orlando, Florida)

Review of main pros and cons.

Main pros:

  • One of the cheapest options to start learning Arabic online (price ranges from $99.95 to $149.95), so it’s a great value for money. Other courses are priced almost two times more, even though they do not offer more features or material.

  • Has self-rating feature (you can rate how well you mastered each lesson or phrase and come back to them later), badges and quizzes, which will keep you motivated to study further and improve your skills.

  • Software’s like “Write it“, “Hear it Say it“, “Know it” and games makes learning more fun, so you are less likely to get bored.

  • Culture lessons are included, which are essential for languages like Arabic.

  • Dialogues in the audios have a transcript in both English and Arabic, so it’s easy to follow and understand every part of the conversation.

  • Can learn on the go, since audio material can be transferred to your mp3 player or other devices.

Main cons:

Only one level available, so only good for beginner-intermediate level learners.

More focused on teaching you how to speak rather than writing, so you might need some supplementary material in this area. Although other programs doesn’t do better job at writing part too or doesn’t include it at all.

In case if you are planning to study without internet connection, the physical copy of this course is very expensive ($299.95), so it’s not really worth it.

Why choose Rocket course online?

If you tried to learn Arabic on the Internet by using free sources you must already know that it is very difficult task. This is because it’s not easy to study any language from separate pieces without a solid learning structure. It does help you to improve some skills and repeat or learn new words; however in my opinion you should already have some basic knowledge of a language. The best part about Rocket course, reviewed here, is that it is one the most dynamic online courses, which makes it more interesting to start learning Arabic. When compared with Pimsleur audio lessons it is more interactive and fun, therefore you are more likely to keep on studying and tracking your progress.

To conclude my review it would be also fair to add that this course material is quite limited. Due to the fact that Arabic is not as popular language to learn as French, German or Spanish, Rocket only offers 1 level of this course. You would definitely need more material in order to reach more advanced level in Arabic since this level is mostly designed for beginner to intermediate learners. However Rosetta Stone and Pimsleur also offers less levels for learning this language, which is somewhere equivalent to Rocket program. Another thing to mention is that this course is more focused on teaching you how to speak rather than writing, but you would learn some basic writing techniques too. Other courses like Pimsleur don’t include writing at all and is even more expensive. So in general if you’re just starting, definitely give this course a try, since there are no better alternative courses for this price to learn online.
