Synergy Spanish is the easiest approach to Spanish I have found. The method is simple and focuses on key vocabulary, sentence structure and common phrases used in daily spoken Spanish. I discovered this online course when I was planning a trip to Colombia, South America, and I did not speak a word of Spanish. I only had a few months so I needed something to give me a quick start, and Synergy Spanish was perfect.
The Top 100 Words
I was so impressed by the author’s approach to language. He states the following in his introduction:- In every language, 50% of communication uses only 100 words. (amazing, but true.)- Memorize those key words, and you will have the most important vocabulary covered.- The rest of the vocabulary you need will come over time, depending on your interests and lifestyle. So, I followed his advice and got to work with flashcards and memorized those 100 words that are 50% of Spanish. Easy!I found he was correct about this in the time I spent learning. Those same words kept popping up and I made fast progress without studying needless lists of vocabulary. This element alone was worth the cost of the course.
How Spanish is (Really) Spoken
Spanish has its own structure and it is very different from English, but in many ways it is easier using fewer words to express the same idea. So, the course really focuses on how the language is spoken in daily life rather than an academic approach. The course includes many audio lesson of simple conversations between people in normal situations, and there is a lot of opportunity to listen and repeat the responses. After a while, it all makes sense and I found myself in Colombia repeating the exact phrases and responses I had learned in Synergy Spanish. I was surprised since I had skipped taking Spanish in school and had no background at all in the language.
Taking on Spanish Verbs
The most difficult part of learning Spanish for everyone are the verbs! Every verb is conjugated in a complex puzzle of tenses that can be difficult to master. However, Synergy Spanish cut through this maze by identifying the verb forms used most frequently, and focusing on learning those first. There are multiple shortcuts and tips to remember the differences, and most importantly a lot of practice using them in daily conversations. Also, the course emphasizes that the worst thing that can happen is that you will refer to the wrong person or time period, but most Spanish speakers will realize it and be happy to correct you.
You Don’t Have to Speak Perfect Spanish was the key theme throughout the course: even if you make mistakes, you will be understood! If you forget a word, or don’t pronounce correctly, most Spanish speakers will still understand you if you make an effort. There is a lot of emphasis in the course on not being afraid to try to speak, even if you wont sound perfect. My Spanish in Colombia the first trip was far from fluent, but I was there for two weeks, never met anyone who spoke English and I got along fine and made many friends. I would recommend Synergy Spanish to anyone planning on traveling to a Latin country or needing to learn Spanish for work or professional reasons. It is a quick and easy start to open the doors to Spanish!
